Event Recap: Greg MacGillivray
Last Saturday SHACC played host to a sold-out crowd of over 200 attendees for the opening of the latest exhibit Greg MacGillivray: A Life Behind the Lens. Three members from the Honk band played a variety of selections from the Five Summer Stories soundtrack and then shared some remembrances of working with MacGillivray on that film (bandmate Steve Wood has had a decades long career collaborating with Greg on his IMAX productions).
Next came a panel discussion moderated by surf historian Sam George with MacGillivray, Pipe Legend Rory Russell, ‘60s female world champion Joyce Hoffman, surfing innovator and filmmaker Herbie Fletcher, and Rich Chew, co-star of MacGillivray’s 1965 film The Performers. This was followed by a highlights reel from Five Summer Stories and MacGillivray signed copies of his book, Five Hundred Summer Stories throughout the night. Tacos were consumed along with Left Coast Brewing Co. beer and Longboard Vineyards wine.
Greg MacGillivray: A Life Behind the Lens runs through the end of this year at SHACC, so if you couldn’t make it to the exhibit opening, stop by soon to see it in person.
