EXPLORE, ENLIGHTEN, CELEBRATE

MISSION & VISION

SHACC exists at the intersection of surfing’s past, present and future. Our mission is to preserve, promote, and present surfing’s heritage and cultural impact.

We celebrate what it means to be a surfer and why surfing has captured hearts and minds since the first time someone rode a wave.

SHACC was founded in 1999 thanks to the combined efforts of Dick Metz, Spencer Croul, and our founding partners who committed the first funds. This lineup of legends has grown the museum into a world-class cultural institute complete with over 500,000 objects, images, and ephemera celebrating all things surf.

In 2005 the museum opened its permanent location in San Clemente, where it continues to enlighten & entertain visitors from all around the world.

WHO WE ARE

Each year SHACC is host to dozens of exhibits, events, speakers, & celebrations that encourage all generations to explore the rich history of surfing. We proudly offer free admission to our main gallery and provide our members with free or discounted admission to special events.

The majority of our collection consists of objects and photographic works donated by our generous founders, patrons, and collaborators. SHACC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a member organization of the AAM, NARM, and CAM museum associations.
