Andy Irons dominated the competition from 2002-2004. In ’02, he became the second competitor to win the Pipe Masters, the Triple Crown, and the world title in the same season. He was also named Surfer of the Year at the Surfer Poll Awards, (breaking Kelly Slater’s nine-year hold) and took the honor again in 2003. Andy is the only surfer ever to win all three titles (Pipe Masters, Triple Crown, and world Title) two years in a row. He also won five of the twelve 2003 WCT events, get inducted into the Surfers Hall of Fame in Huntington Beach and continued his legacy with his second consecutive world title. Tragically, Andy passed away at the age of 32 in November of 2010, while returning home midway through a surf contest in Puerto Rico. The surfing world took this very hard, including Kelly Slater, who dedicated his 10th World Title to Andy. Of his greatest rival, Kelly stated, “without Andy, my motivation to compete for so many years would not have been possible.” This is one of Andy’s personal boards. Paul Naude traded it for one Spencer Croul had bought at the 2004 ASR Auction (since this one was ridden much more by Andy than the other). It features a custom paint job and A.I.’s autograph.

This board is on loan from the Spencer Croul Collection.
